Noisy engine

Got a polo 6n2 1.4 MPI 8V and the engine noise is quite loud and sounds like a diesel.. its only done just over 60k miles.
Ive just done a cambelt and fanbelt and had a service done. And it hasnt changed, wondering if anyone else has the same problem? is this common with the 8 valvers?

Did you get the waterpump changed? The bearings often fail and make an awful noise
Its normally the 16V 1.4s that get noisy. The tappets wear prematurely and it can make a somewhat irritating noise. Some wynns valve lifter treatment can help improve it.

Told the garage to change the waterpump if it needs doing, and they said it looked in good condition so didnt bother chaning it. Ive had the car for almost a year, and its always been this noisy. Now that you mention it does sound like it could be the tapers, so when I have more money ill deffo take it in to get it looked at. Thanks for the reply man, helped a lot
