im new to this forum, ive joined because ive just bought my 17 year old son his first car, a 1.4 polo.
It has a few issues with the electric windows but the problem i need help with is that i cannot open the boot! it was open in the ebay pictures so we didnt even notice until we'd got it home, is this a typical polo issue?
also, it only came with 1 key, does the 1.4 16v on a Y plate not have remote CL?

thanks in advance for any info

Depends what trim level.
E and Match are manual locking
S has central locking
SE has remote central locking

When you turn the key in the boot what happens? How does the handle feel?

Guessing regardless of where the key is, the handle does nothing?

Its worth checking the central locking pump in the boot behind the drivers side rear light cluster

Hi,
does anyone know if there are there any old posts/threads about servicing or repairing these pumps?

so i climbed into the boot through the rear seats and fairly easily flicked the locking lever over with a screwdriver and can now open and close the boot, but now when i put the key in the boot lock it will not turn in either direction so i now cant lock the boot! ive located the vacuumn pump and its not working despite looking to be in as new condition when i disassembled it, so i will replace this.
i did notice when i blow and suck on the disconnected blue pipe i cant lock and unlock the fuel cap, but it doesnt operate the door locks, is this normal does anyone know?
many thanks

You might have to remove the boot panel inside to get the lock to release manually
