understand that the new 6c polo gti will have a ea888-style engine, obviously plenty of room for tuning compared to the 1.4tsi...any one got a reasonable rough estimate on what we can expect? will it be similar to the golf gti engine in terms of robustness and tuning potential?

i've had a little look but they don't fit it in many cars

but i think 230bhp shouldn't be too much bother looking at apr/revo but no other car has the same power of the polo tune

The EA888 has had some big issues. Look up Golf R blown turbo.

i can't see the same turbo being used on the golf R as the polo gti tbh

I think it's only part of the same family as the Golf R engine.

Clearly, turbo, swept volume and likely internals will differ.

Like most recent VAG turbo engines, it should respond well to tuning, 210-220 bhp with just a map should be realistic.

Of course, you can probably go much further, but diminishing returns and increased risk of over stressing components kicks in.

I'm sure VW are fully aware of the issues and will have addressed them in the new version, if the turbo was the culprit then they'll no doubt upgrade for a more reliable unit.

Contrary to popular belief, VW didn't drop the 1.4 twin charge because of the oil consumption issues on some cars, it was dropped purely because of costing, the twin-charge motor was pretty expensive to produce for obvious reasons, the 1.8 turbo is an economically more viable option.

I agree complelty, and has a EA211 that was great. All I wanted to point out is people should not get complacent when tuning these engines. It would be foolish to expect massive returns before people have had time to have a good look at what components have been used on the engine. In the Golf R situation the turbo was fine at stock, but stage one was enough to push it over the edge.

The dieled down 1,8 in the Polo shouldn't be the most reliable EA888 you can get I have heard... So tuning will have to be at your own risk.
