New GTI Help

Hi guys

Recently picked up a lovely Polo GTI 1.8t from a forum member, 2 issues if anyone can help

Firstly there is a knock underneath, it's only happening over bad roads but I can feel it a bit through the steering, the wishbone bushes have been replaced by the previous owner so I'm not suspecting them, it does feel like something loose but the weather been so bad I can't check yet

Secondly, it might just be me being a bit panicky but there seems a whine on the gearbox which is a lit louder than I was expecting, it only happens in first gear and only between 2-2.5k revs it then disappears and doesn't occur in any other gear, anything to be worried about?

Cheers Stu

Basically I've found a video of the noise I have on the gearbox on YouTube, it you listen in to when the car starts you hear the gearbox whine at 2k

1st gear can sometimes whine due to the synchros on 1st and 2nd gears - i wouldnt say its anything to worry about if it sounds like that video

As for your knock, it could be top mounts, tie rods, drop links, engine mounts, wishbone bushes. Really needs some investigation to check for worn or broken parts.

Thanks Alex

Yes the suspension has been diagnosed as a top mount issue which is being fixed, I was just a little worried about the noise in 1st Gear but it its reasonably common that puts my mind at ease
