Sat Nav Upgrade

Had an e-mail from Inchcape today. They are offering to upgrade sat nav for £599. The upgrade looks very pretty and no doubt has desirable features but I consider an hour long upgrade costing 2.5% of gross vehicle purchase price on a six month old vehicle smacks of taking the Mickey. Am I just a miserly old grouch or does anybody out there in Veedub land agree?

What do you get for the upgrade? A new 6.5" Discover Navigation (MIB-II) headunit? They are a £700 factory fitted option.

Already have that head unit as part of the optional extras. The upgrade offers "better integration" and some fancy graphical updates and other bits that I don't need to get me where I want to go. In a sat nav I want graphics that instruct rather than distract. The upgrade seems to be software and that's what annoys me. My smart TV, computers etc upgrade their software automatically and free of charge ,when you splash out over £20k on a motor car is it unreasonable to expect such upgrades if not free then at least at nominal cost?

I think this is an attempt to exploit the iPhone effect where techno geeks are encouraged to discard perfectly functioning devices in favour of the new model not to make better calls but to give bragging rights amongst their peers.

I'll buy a McLaren next time, they have a more ethical approach to upgrades, just need to negotiate a discount to bring the price down to BGT levels.

I think it's the Kenwood GVN-MIB1 navigation unit they are offering. It's not just software.

Pointless if you already have the VW Discover Navigation headunit fitted.

If that is indeed the case a spectacularly mistargeted offer then seeing as Inchcape know the exact spec on my car.

Inchcape managed to tick off sat nav working on PDI without SD card being supplied or fitted and do not seem capable of reading e-mails, not very impressive as dealers go.
