Hi Guys,

Just checked my dipstick and after 8500 miles I'm only quarter of the way up it now...Has anyone else had to top-up before their first service? If so, what oil have you used? Beginning to wonder if i should top it up or if I've got enough to do the next 1500 miles.

5W30 Longlife 3

And yes, you should top it up. It should always be at the top of the hashed markings.

Cheers. Although my manual does state anywhere on the hashed markings (which it is). So I get to pay for oil that's getting replaced in about two weeks, good stuff!

One last question Alex or anyone else. Handbook says QI6 which is long life oil as you mentioned and flexible service. My car says it needs an oil change in 1500 miles yet the handbook states every 20,000 miles for flexi service. Which is correct?!

LL3 is used for all servicing now, both time and distance or flexible (up to 20k)

Well that's interesting. I read my handbook last night and you're meant to check the oil when the engine is at operating temperature according to the manual. That's certainly not what I nor most of the people I've asked were taught. Turns out I have plenty of oil when checked this way. Anybody know why VW state to check it when warm, yet all my previous cars say otherwise?

I agree thats interesting. Ive always been told, and always have checked the oil temp when the engine is cold

Some VAG dealers workshops have moved to 0W-30 - as I have discovered (2011 Audi S4), seems to be in the interests of fuel economy!!
