Polo engine trouble

Hello all and hope someone can help.

I own a Vw polo 6N2 1.0. Last week I started me car and suddenly it appeared to sound more noisy (tractor like) and was struggling to pull away at low revs. As though it was running on three cylinders.
That afternoon I carried on to work with the car struggling along (my journey was around 2miles) I repeated this journey home the same day.

The next morning I went to start the car again it was running perfectly once again until around 5days of driving the car it has started to run rough again, with very poor acceleration.

I have changed the air filters and renewed the ht leads. I belive all cylinders are working, as have removed each ht lead separately from the spark plug and then started the car to try and see which cylinder was not firing. But each time I swapped and removed ht lead from the spark plug I got same result of the engine spluttering. Also the ignition coils were replaced around three years ago.

The engine is running at a steady idle and is not searching, but seems to sound more lumpy, particularly when the engine is revved.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Philip

Welcome

Have you had the car scanned for faults? You could well have a faulty EGR valve as this can cause all kinds of strange problems like you are seeing. That would explain the emission warning light too.

Hello Alex and thank you for the reply!

I have not as yet, but would be possible if I took the car to a garage to get checked.

I had wondered if it could be a EGR valve, but was unsure where the valve is located. I have been told previously that it is possible to get these blanked/removed? Or is it best to be replaced?

Thanks, Philip

EGR on the 16vs at least is located to the right hand front of the engine just beneath the engine cover. Not 100% sure where it is on the 1L but its probably near there

Getting it blanked/removed isnt sensible. It increases the CO2 output of the car, and can cause problems with emissions testing come MOT time

Best to get it replaced with a genuine one, or as minimum a Bosch or a Siemens VDO part. The cheap unbranded EGRs are absolute rubbish and fail 90% of the time

Also, replacing it isnt as straightforward as an old out new in job. The new one has to be calibrated before it will work properly via the computer.

Thanks again for the advice and help!

I will take a look when I get chance. I am presuming it is not a part that can get repaired or cleaned up?

Will it be a fairly expensive part to replace?

Thanks

I am looking for a replacement EGR Valve for my 1.0l X Reg Polo and was wondering whether the 1.4 with the same registration is compatible?
Many thanks
