Hi all. AS you all know i have a 6kv5 with the 1.9 ahu engine. The problem started a few months ago but ive been keeeping ontop of it but recently its been doing it maybe every half hour of driving. It has had a new radiator, heater matrix, waterpump and thermostat and it stilll overheats. whats its doing is its building to much pressure in the cooling system and due to this is pushes all the water out of the coolant tank leaving the engine dry. it will empty the tank within about 6 miles of driving. if anyone has any sugestions please put them forward. its starting to get really annoying now. cheers NAthan I THink

Sounds like you have a blockage in the system and the water isnt circulating

Have you checked to make sure water is flowing through the block properly?

Hi pal. I'm going to check if I have a blockage tonight when I get back from work. I think the problem lies in the oil cooler.

Its possible. It sounds like the water isnt flowing through the system and its getting hotter and hotter and hotter then blowing the cap

What concentration of coolant are you putting in to water ratio?

It does need to be red - these engines need ethylene glycol (organic) coolant, being pink/red in colour. Halfords do a premixed in that too.

OKay cheers. well when i first got the car there was only water in the cooling system so im guessing theres a bloackage aswell. but im going to pick some red concentrate up at the weekend. give it a good flush with some heavy duty cleaner. i will disconnect the heater matrix and rad. and just flush the block with this cleaner. cheers

Is water flowing through the radiator? Does the bottom hose get hot?

Yeah but I think it's only using part of rad. I Amgunna flush the whole system this weekend see if that helps

Sounds like either:

the radiator is blocked.
The thermostat or thermostat housing has failed.
The water pump isn't working

It's got a new water pump and there is no thermostat

So you took the thermostat out?

Sounds like a blocked radiator
