Is my sunroof operating correctly?

When I turn the overhead knob as far as it will go, the roof opens about 80%. If I want it to open to 90%, I have to turn the knob as far as it will go again twice. It's almost as if it doesn't really want to open completely.

My dealer said this is normal and 'they all do that', but it seems a bit strange to me.

Yes, VW have been doing that for about 10 years now. I believe the first "stop" is where the roof will open to without wind buffeting, the second (fully retracted) might allow some buffeting. That's how it used to work on my wife's Polo 9n3, however back then, the sunroofs used to retract into a cartridge in the roof, whereas today's units retract outside the roof.

OK, thanks for the confirmation. I still think it's a bit weird, though. Surely, if you turn the knob as far as it goes, you want the roof open max :?

Being a bit thick it took me some time to get used to the fact that the magic knob would not reflect roof status if you had used the key fob to open or close the sky hole. Obvious really but we old codgers are easily confused by anything not worked by bits of wood and string.
