Blue GT, 62mpg most mornings, averaging 57 mpg a tank as I can't help myself at the weekend on a nice quiet country road.

On way to work I get around 50-60MPG usually higher 50's. On return normally low-mid 40's due to a hilly A road.

I average around 48-50MPG a tank apparently, lifetime MPG is 46.3 yet I only ever get 420 Miles...

Diesels can give excellent economy but you have to factor in the higher cost of derv to make the comparison valid. The downside is carcenogenic particulate and Nitrous Oxide emissions particularly on chipped or remapped vehicles. The health risks are starting to be politically unacceptable leading to the ultra high emission zone planned for London, punative parking charges popping up around the country and the open war against diesel use in Paris. I've enjoyed tuned diesels for many years but, for me that era is history. Enjoy yours before regulation forces you off the road, sad but inevitable I'm afraid.

1.2 TSI get around 65-70mpg on a motorway run between 70-80mph in 6th gear.

between 35-45 around town and about 12 when I give it some!

Completely standard engine!

Unfortunately you are very right! there still something about a tuned diesel which i cant get into words...i prefer them much to petrol cars
but i think 65mpg in a diesels is better than 50mpg in a petrol even considering the more extra fuel price..no?

the biggest problem with diesels is the smell

i mean when you go to fill up and there are no gloves and your hands stink for the rest of the day if there is the slightest hint of it on the nozzle handle

the sooner that diesel is banned the better :P

1.2 n/a (70ps) petrol

45 litre tank

440-450 miles per tank = 44-45 real world MPG every single tank! :) and happy with that. My 1997 corsa 'B' gave me 25mpg

Yes but my standard Blue GT is giving me better economy than any of my tuned diesels ever managed during the near twenty years I enjoyed them so my figures are almost the reverse of those you quote.

My favorite diesel trait was the feeling of being attached to an elastic band as gear changeless linear acceleration propelled you towards the horizon, trouble was that on those days were only mega revs would satisfy the diesel refused to play. I find that my DSG box can give the same lazy day feeling but wakes up when, to quote Nigel Mansell you give it the beans.

Responding to another poster, derv can be messy and slippery but call me weird if you like but I find the slightly perfumed smell quite pleasant.

As they say, horses for courses but whilst I've had a tank full of diesel freeze The same thing has never happened with petrol. Moral of that story is don't drive around the Highlands in mid winter with a tank of summer diesel.

Just over 1000 miles into ownership now and averaging 33.8 long-term on my 6c GTI 5 dr. Getting about 42 mpg on the M-way, so looks like high 20's around town.
