Charging your phone using USB on the MIB2

I find when I plug my iPhone5s into the USB socket linked to the MIB2 head unit in the new GTI that I'm getting problems with the Bluetooth and plugged in links competing with each other.

If I turn off the Bluetooth I lose the ability to make phone calls it seems. Anyone else had this issue, and if so, how did you resolve it?

I don't know about iPhones, but with my Nokia (Windows Phone 8.1) when you plug it into a USB socket it will ask you whether or not you want to use the USB data connection. I think Android phones do the same. Obviously no USB data, no downloading of music stuff and no conflicts!

Alternatively, have you tried using a charge-only USB wire? Some of the cheap Lightning cable knockoffs only do charging.

A wildcard perhaps but in order to extend the abysmal battery life of my iPhone I bought a piggyback cover battery combo from Amazon. It has a USB charge through capability so if you choose to charge it from Mr VW's handy port there will be no data connection and your tooth can be as Blue as a Cardiff City supporter ought to be.

That's an interesting idea and I may pursue it if I can't manage to sort it some other way. I'm hoping the app-connect function will be available soon which should bring some extra functionality from the iPhone and would resolve the problem.

I'm also happy Cardiff are back in Blue and the new Blue kit set a record for first day sales when it went on sale yesterday - so a few others must be too! :D

Just a shame we're going to have a rubbish season... :(

No football team playing in red has ever been any good so fingers crossed, anything can happen in football.
