Annoying piano black insert on steering wheel

I wonder if the person that thought that having that stylish and quite attractive feature on the steering wheel, really checked it out in use? I've just driven wife's new Polo 6R/C in rain for the first time, and it is quite annoying having a distracting "white flash" as the wipers sweep across the windscreen - a lack of thought, a bit like has been reported with respect to the "headlight switch in mirror" which I have not had the chance to check out yet. It is the small things that count sometimes, spoils a generally adequate little car. Other stupid things include rain dropping off the edge of the door into the car, though I have not checked out what happens when the hatch is opened, as the old 9N Polo did tend to tip quite a lot of water in on to the shelf supports, a bit like the current Ibiza S/C does! I've also noticed an open box section (under bonnet driver's side RHD) where there a number stamped that tends to contain/retain water - corrosion site for the future probably.

Edit:- subject line sorted!!

Honestly never noticed the piano black inserts causing a reflection when the wipers are working, or the head lights switch reflecting in the glass. The water being dumped on when the doors open is the same in any car with a smooth (gutterless roof) My mum's Honda Jazz and Dad's Octavia VRS and I'm guessing most modern cars suffer from this but my 40 year old beetle which has a small channel above the door doesn't suffer from this.

My only real gripes so far have been with the inability of VW's service department to respond to emails or phone calls. The car has been brilliant so far just let down by poor after sales team at the dealership.

Not that anyone has said this yet, I am not just having a poke/stab at this model of car, but like others on any car forum, really just voicing my thoughts/findings.

Maybe my attention had been drawn to the reflection of the wipers on the steering wheel as I was already being distracted about the driver's side wiper whacking off the window pillar - really incorrect positioning at initial assembly which was quickly sorted with the correct tools - so no marks made anywhere. Thinking back, I did think that it was strange that the driver's side wiper was visible when in the park position, I moved it down an inch and the passenger side one up half an inch to avoid any more of the car restricting the movement.

I'd still think that there are very good reasons to avoid shiny surfaces inside a car, another design form over function "triumph".

I just need to see if VW are considering adding the "auto-locking" to the menu, if not, I'll probably find out if it is possible with VCDS as that has been briefly mentioned on this forum.

The comment in the previous posting about emailing/telephoning the service department, I think that I've tried in the past to email the parts department, as there was that facility on the dealer's website - pity no one told the parts team! I have booked cars in by using the on-line facilities in the past, mainly Audi who like most other places, do not look and compare your current contact details and update/change if necessary, not very professional. Seat do or used to give extras if booking services on-line, which was quite handy, AA roadside breakdown cover I think.

Edit:- on the dripping rain water issue, well, Ford did solve that one once, and VAG will not be expecting problems, especially with the side doors as all models tend to have an inner and outer seal, the issue at the raised hatch has not been corrected yet.

I'm quite sure that auto locking is possible- I've just got off the plane from Spain, and while there I had a 6C Polo with the 1.0 75PS engine. Lovely car, if slow, and it had auto locking. It was in the Car > Settings section on the touchscreen (it was a mid-spec car, with the same interior trim as UK SEs and SELs, but had the 'midline' cluster and Composition Colour radio like the S models do here).

I think that a few "options" are selected by sales territory, which must mean that they are the result of potential customer "surgeries" - which might mean that we have VW-UK to blame for this function "missing". My worry initially, might be that some other items/coding are also missing for UK sales region, and that selecting to change one might have an effect on something else - I hope that I am wrong there though! (that is me making a general statement wrt making changes - must scan the car very soon with VCDS)

I'd guess a few people on this forum would have laughed when they read about "anti-carjacking" functions being fitted to cars in USA 20 odd years ago (me included) but that function does now seem like a better choice than the standard VW single/side/all door unlocking - I changed wife's Polo back to "all" so she will eventually get round to that - though I think that she always simply gave the key two clicks to open, so never ever had the security of locked doors when out alone! On the flip side, I still get a bit annoyed when I stop in the S4 or Ibiza and people do not seem to just open the boot/hatch or doors, take quite a few minutes for the penny to drop that I have to do something, which sadly still seems to be to open the driver's door - I must improve and having all our cars "the same" would help!
