That's an air gun

Torque wrench is like a big socket wrench that clicks when it reaches a certain torque. Normally they whizz the bolts up with the gun then torque wrench them after

Hmm I think I saw one there, should they have been using one for a tyre place? Is this what the number degrees thing relates to, the tightness?

Yeah all garages generally use them and tighten the nuts to around 120nm

Is there a gauge on it to determine the tightness? What does nm stand for?

Also if for some reason I can't get hold of the wheel spanner can I buy one of these from anywhere?

Yeah you twist the handle to set it. When it reaches the specified torque setting the handle clicks

Halfords sell them. Newton metres

Ah. Thanks for the info.

Well right now Halfords is a cursed name here, haha, but that's the autocentre. I have sent my letter of complaint now with the copy of the invoice for the wheel bearing work. Will wait and see what response I get, if any. Have given them 2 weeks to refund me.

So 14 days is nearly up and I still haven't had my refund from Halfords, would have expected a cheque by now but it looks like they aren't going to give me the money back for the bearing costs. Next step is to take it up with Trading Standards?

Car has been driving fine for the past fortnight, no weird wheel noises, done about 100 miles in it so surely something would have happened by now.

Yeah, can't actually remember what I put in the letter cos I expected to get the money back so wouldn't need to use trading standards but I have a copy of it.

Will also get onto head office too. The local one could lie and say they never received the original letter.

*UPDATE*

Still no refund from Halfords, have logged a dispute with Motoring code of practice. Have just received a call from a senior member of the Halfords office saying they'll be investigating so at least there's some movement on this. The scumbags are going to give me my money back and I will fight to the death to make sure I get it!!

This is all dragging out and taking ages. I bet the local autocentre try to say it wasn't them and they never got a letter.

The actual car is driving fine mechanically at the moment, apart from small things like the door locks not working and the temperature gauge not quite staying at the 90 position.

*UPDATE 2*

Received a call from the guy who called on Tuesday, someone high up in the Halfords ranks. I will now be getting a cheque refund for the work required for the bearings. I asked why the local autocentre didn't respond and he said that they had a temporary manager at the time who wasn't there when he visited. Sounds like a load of bull to me I reckon the head office gave them a bollocking and they backed down. The bottom line is though I'm getting my money back! A month to the day after the new bearings were fitted as well.

Yeah I'm relieved that this has been resolved. They're offering a free MOT voucher too, but I am NEVER going to use them again no matter how cheap they are!!
