Phone issues

Hi All,

I finally get my car back today. They still can't diagnose the fault on my cruise control properly as no fault code is left. They've changed all the buttons on the steering wheel, though it's taken four trips into the garage to get this far.

Their theory now is the car is faulting because of my iPhone 6 and it's sending signals to the car which disables my cruise. Has anyone else with an iPhone has a few problems with their 6C polo? I have to admit the cruise issues did start just after I got my new phone....

What a stupid suggestion. In what way are bluetooth and cruise control interlinked.....

Thats clutching at straws trying to find an answer!

I thought that too and I think it's coincidence that my car has started having issues at the same time as I changed my phone. Especially as my wifes SE is fine with her iphone 6 and the courtesy car is also fine with mine. Thought I'd ask anyway as you never know!

I would have thought that VAG would have checked their cars complete with these systems against the correct EMC testing while they were being put through qualification prior to model launch - though the same should be true of Apple before its products go to market!

What technology does the steering wheel buttons use to talk back to the car controllers?

No idea. I think changing all the buttons on the steering wheel was a stab in the dark as this fault leaves no code and is intermittent. It clears the minute you restart the engine and there's no guarantee the cruise will fail again immediately. It's a strange one. The only positive is I have now driven most of the cars in the VW range instead of putting mileage onto mine!

What do you mean by disabling? If it is that the cruise simply lets the speed drop then it could be down to a simple problem like an intermittent fault on the clutch or brake pedal switches - which would not leave a fault code. If they've changed the steering wheel and it still happens then the only things left that would 'turn off' the cruise normally are these two switches or the electrics attached to them.

By disabling I mean the cruise suddenly stops working for no apparent reason, gives the symbol in the handbook showing the speedo and exclamation mark, and won't work again until you restart the car.

Thanks iichel. Maybe I should let you guys look at it as my supposed VW dealership say they can't find any issues even though they acknowledge there is a problem. See what happens when I get the car back tonight. Missed it after two weeks of not having it!
