USB - Portable Hard Drive

I was hoping someone could give me a bit of advice.

I have a 2015 Polo GT and I have recently been using my I-pod connected via the USB input and this worked perfectly. However, I have now bought a new portable hard drive with all my music on it (which are all M4a Apple Lossless files). When I plug this in via USB it's not registering as being USB connected.

Really not sure why this is, thought it may be a formatting issue but would be very grateful if someone has some tech advice to share and solve!

Thanks all, Alun 46

What format is the hard drive? If it's a proprietary Mac format it won't be read.

Hard drive can be formatted as FAT16, FAT32, exFAT and NTFS. If it's not this then pages 37 and 45 of your Composition Media handbook will take you through the other limitations

You're welcome. Do you use a Mac or PC as a computer?

i wouldn't be surprised if the USB connection cannot supply enough power for the hard drive to spin up.

plus it's not a idea to use a rotating hard drive in a car.

i think a 64GB sd card is big enough anyone and leaves the usb ports free to charge a phone etc

do you honestly need over 12 days of music in your car?
