Hi All,

I picked up a vw polo 9n3 2007 1.4 this week. Everything looked great, drove nice on the day i went to view it. Just this morning i went to start the car and it started then suddenly died. :( I had to then keep the key turned and place my foot on the accelerator until it eventually started. Once it started it felt as if it want to switch off again, so i revved it alittle and i saw abit of smoke come out of the exhaust, then after it was ok.

I got a simple obd vag reader, i plugged it in and the code that came up is: 17961

Has anyone had a similar problem?, does this sound like a common fault? I feel gutted i bought a car thats got a problem already

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Sorry that no one has posted back yet, but have you tried Google with that code, ie "vag fault code ***** ", I had a Polo 1.4 from new for almost 13 years and 106+K miles, a fault code reader is a very handy thing to keep in the car! One thing that the Google searches came out with was an inlet leak from something like the brake servo hose, keep looking, good luck!

One other thing, without wanting to annoy anyone, this forum is not the best place to find a solution or help to technical issues, better to try the Fabia section of www.briskoda.net and Ibiza section of www.seatcupra.net - in each case matching your model age wise with the Fabia and Ibiza.
