Driver door won't lock

Last night I noticed the driver's side door wouldn't lock properly. Usually I turn it the left but it just goes horizontal whilst in the lock and the button doesn't move on the panel. The passenger's side is ok but when locking it the driver side doesn't move. Also when unlocking on driver's side (turn to the right) the window opens all the way down. So to lock the vehicle now I have to get in the passenger side, press the switch to lock all doors from the inside and then get out to lock the passenger door from that side.
