Owner of new POLO BlueGT - mudflaps and oil

As subj.
Car should be ready in week 44.
Comming from a BMW i'm looking forward, and hope for the best...

1. One thing thou, i would REALLY like som mudflaps in the front, to prevent stone chips. Dealer tells me it's a no go, since the BlueGT has bluemotion side skirts. Is there a work around somehow ??

2. Another question, i know the older 1,4tsi twin charger used to drink a LOT of oil. What's the story with the new 1.4 only turbo charged (140/150hp) ??

Mine needed topping up just before first service, but needed hardly any oil. Not checked it since as the car has been in and out the garage for two months. Unfortunately can't answer the mudflap question, but there's loads of knowledgeable people on here!

Since the BlueGT has the same sideskirts as the Bluemotion it is NOT possible to get mudflaps behind the front wheels.

And just as Lancslad says regarding the oilusage. it hardly uses any. It actually only uses a little bit when you fill it all the way up. If you leave a few milimeters free on the measuring part it doesn't use as much. (The Golf GTI's have the same "syndrome")

Thx for the reply guys.

Happy about the general oil consumption.

The rocker panels will be applied with some tectyl, at least the lower part. That should protect from stone chips etc.

How are the polos regarding rust??

If you get a good one it will be okay, wife had a late 2002 Polo from new, again fully galvanised but maybe before they started using water based paints, it had blisters/bubbles appearing in about 12 places after just 4 years, but I did not trust VW to repair without creating other problems, when I traded it in as it was too nasty looking to sell privately, it was rusting at both wheel arches - known problem, on the sills and door bottoms and the hatch area - underneath the car looked very nasty. When I sold my old late 2000 B5 Passat, it only had slight spots of rust where the shiny black stick on panels were on the doors.

Looking around my wife's new Polo built in South Africa (RHD 5 door), I'd think that for anyone keeping their cars for more than 5 years, it is time to look out rustproofing material.

I've also had a look under my daughter's late 2009 6J Ibiza and I am not too impressed with what I've seen, both on the body and all the black painted bolt-on parts, in fact I could pick off a lot of the crumbling/rusting black paint - wife's old Polo also lost most of its bolt-on parts black paint which I replaced with Kurust and Hermitite paint.

Me too. I am tempted to buy a pair as they're quite cheap and see if I can't adapt them to fit round the side skirt.

Shocking.

My old car, BMW e87 118d from 2008 was spotless, also under the car.

Guess VW is a step back.
