Pathetic Rear Wash Facility (Wipe still worked)
Posted: Tue Jul 27, 2004 10:35 pm
Just thought I'd pop this down in case anyone experiences the same problem.
Rear Wash facility had been getting poor recently Hardly squirted enough washer fluid to wet the window and took ages before any came out - Front wasn't anything to write home about either - more dribble than dousing but bearable
I know I thought run the reservoir down and do the old Viakal trick.
The following is a bit of a digress but maybe usefull for someone
- The pipes and jets tend to scale up over time especially if neat water is used in the past instead of 10% screen wash
- run the tank down to the bottom
- Nick wifes
or mums
bottle of viakal
- Squirt half a bottle in the reservoir and then activate the jets to get it to the nozzles (Front and rear)
- Wash the excess of the paintwork with a hose
- Go have a cup of tea (or other suitable non alcholic beverage) and return the stolen goods before they are spotted missing
- Repeat occasional squirts and wash downs to keep the stuff that is still active in the washer bottle going down the tubes
- when empty hose fill to rinse it out of the washer bottle
- Refill with clean water and 10% screen wash
- Have fun readjusting the jets cos now the front screen jets go straight over the roof when stationary at traffic lights
Satisfy yourself with a job well done
Well not in my case cos whilst the fronts were now perfect
The back one was p*** poor to non existant
So bit more investigation required
Remove battery to check flow at the pump/solenoid - bets on me having to reset the service light?
Pulled the pipe of the pump - blimmey loads of flow (Basically while she pushed the stalk I was watching) Now a bit damp - I thought it's a long run from front to rear whats the odds on a kinked tube restricting flow
Off with the trim on the inside of the hatch nice rubber joining piece removed and she gets to push the stalk again - oooh I thought I didn't get wet - just dribbles out of the tube after ages waiting to get any through. When it stopped flowing it dissapeared back down the tube like a rat up a drainpipe...... Now I am suspicious - it shouldn't go back down the tube
I worked out where it went - in through the bulkhead under the carpet on the passenger side then along the car on the passenger side on the inside of the sill - So have a quick look under the carpet
bit wet down here - well actually very wet - time for the bounty!!!!!!
So off with the door seal and interior trim carpet prised up and check the pipe for splits - none found
But when the squirter was activated more water/screenwash appeared
So it's a three door so of with the trim panel on the passenger side by the rear seat - Lift up seat cushion - deep joy its screenwash city under the seat too - more bounty
Get off pannel what did I find?
You may have already voted but we've narrowed it down a bit since then so what was it?
1. Split pipe
2. Holed pipe
3. Split joint
You all decided?
There is a join right by the seat back rest locating pin insde the panel and it a flexible bit of rubber bout 3 inches long to join the plastic tube and the plastic tubes are 3.5 inches apart
I managed to work a little bit of slack at the bulkhead end all the way back along the sill to recover 3/4 of an inch and the put the thing back together with some mini cable ties as a belt and braces just in case
Spent next 30 mins trying to bounty up any other water puddles - may have to revert to seats and carpets out for a proper job at the weekend but it'll do for now.
Like I said it might help someone
