Blue GT with Xenon query

I have Xenons in my Blue GT and was just wanting to check if mine are working as they should. As when I have the headlights on and select reverse gear or turn a corner additional light in the headlight clusters come one.
What I want to check though is when I move the headlight switch to 1st position which would be sidelights going by previous up! nothing at the front lights up in addition to the led dRL's which are already on. Is this correct?

Headlight switch at:
0 (left possition) - Only LED's are on in the front
1 (middle possition) - LED in the front is on at half power and taillights and license plate lights are on.
2 (right possition) - Same as 1 but now the xenon projectors are on aswell.
In Polo's with the AUTO feature the Automatic function switches between
0 and
2 (as explained before) in relation to how dark it is outside.

That clears it up. In conjunction with the above query is it correct that the numbers on my dials don't light up position 1. All the button on the radio and steering wheel do.

I think that's a 'safety feature'. If it's dark enough for you to need the dials lit up, you should have the lights on properly

in possition 0 and 1 the dials are only fully lit in daylight. The darker it gets the more the lights dim til the point that you can't read them anymore without turning the switch to possition 2. And there by also turning on the xenon bulbs.
So yes it is a safety feature to make sure you turn the lights on when it gets dark outside.
Just for fun you can take a flashlight and tonight go out and with the interior lights off, set the light switch to either possition 0 or 1 and the shine the flashlight just for a second at the heat dial in the rev counter. The dials should then light up for a moment until they dim the lights again. That's how they work.
