Part no. 8D0 407 309
Doesn't seem to be commonly available.
We def. have one on the O/S because it fell out during gearbox re-fit, but I don't think there was one on the N/S and we were not about to take the shaft out again to check (at 11:00PM).
Are these optional?
our N/S inner CV looked a bit gungy on the outside, like it had been spitting grease everywhwere, nice.

I think they are optional...... I needed one when I replaced an engine, couldn't get one and after buying some gasket material and having a couple of attempts decided that they were too difficult to make without a proper template.
Mine doesn't leak, but if I had one I would fit one.

They can spit grease without having one. You are best to refit

I've scoured the interweb and the only ones I can find are in the US and they are cork or cardboard or something.
