Help ID'ing piece left over from Pedal Box

Hi there. So I replaced the dreaded Pedal Box (those two bolts are all people said they would be) with a new one and we have a little issue now.

Anyhow, after we finished there is a tiny bit of play in the steering wheel that was not there before hand. We (brother and I) think it has something to do with this little piece of metal we had left over...I know !! But we cannot remember it coming out but it was in the footwell after we put everything back.

Anybody know what it might be and where it goes?

Many thanks.

It could be the shim that goes on the back of the steering column

Is the play left to right or is the actual column moving?

It definitely has the look of a shim about it.

The play is left to right and not the actual column itself.

It definitely looks like a shim of some sort because if its bending shape.

The play is in the steering from left to right and back, and not the column itself. Column is firmly fixed in place.

Thank you for your reply.

Play left to right was probably there before hand.

If the column isnt physically moving, the work youve done wouldnt cause that.
