2010 polo 6r
i have a noise coming from the passenger side going over bumps, its a knocking/ clunking noise. after a bit of research i jacked the car up and lifted the wheel and the front strut/ top mount moves! so i guess it has become compressed and need replacing? any ideas how to actually remove the from shock as there are no bolts as i would of expected... do i need to compress the spring then remove? how is it fixed to the top??
thanks

I wonder if this is in any way related to the issues that same age Ibizas have, Seat, it sounds like, sorted them out, this is as far as I know, I just read about it on the Seat Cupra forum a while ago.

been quoted £100 to fit and £11 parts for both sides. might be worth doing but ideally would like to have a go myself. anyone got a useful link or vid on how to remove the entire suspension strut?
thanks

to change your top mounts you've got to remove the full strut assembly from the hub
1. remove your wheel
2. remove pinch bolt from back of the hub which holds the strut assembly in place
3. once removed, use a small wedge to open the back of the hub up so you can slide the strut assembly out
4. use and allen key and a swan neck spanner to remove the top nut from your strut (this is under the bonnet and under the rain tray) you will probably need to put spring compressors on your spring too
5. Once removed your full strut assembly will drop out including the top mount
swap your top mount then re-assemble in reverse. To put the strut back in the hub, use a jack to pump the strut into the sleeve in the hub
hope that helps!
