Hey guys, recently joined the forum to gather some needed information/advise on the 6r Polo GTi's. Im currently looking to rid of my 2.0 TSi Scirocco for somthing smaller and less thirsty as i want to start saving for other things. I had my heart set on a 6R or Ibiza Cupra, finally decided i prefer the interior of the 6R and looks. Unfortunately upon alot of browsing and reading i cant help but read consistant engine failure with these particular cars, which at the moment in my head means 'do not buy a GTi...' but there must be a reason people drive and buy them when they're a few years old.. Just looking for closure/peace of mind wether to continue to find one or forget about it.. Thanks!

Just a warning...

The engine in the 6R GTI has been know to have alot of faults... They can stretch the timing chain resulting in destroying the engine and they can use ALOT of oil.

My 6R had 12,000 miles when i picked it up on a 11 plate. After a month i'd used 5L of oil and had to go back in for a list two a4 pages long to be replaced and various hours of labour.. long story short it fixed it but not completely, engine even since felt week and fragile but maybe that was just in my head..

avoid a 6r, get a 6c and get a nice spec one. (not got mine yet, however i highly doubt i'll be disappointed)
or maybe a older shape gti? or golf?

Thanks for the input, i think im probably going to avoid buying one completely then as i dont want to be getting in it and every time asking myself when the engines going to pop.. I dont do alot of miles probably 10 a day with a 80 mile trip on every other weekend so i suppose i cant really justify a diesel but i'd love a DSG.. anyone suggest anything that wont feel like such a step down from my rocco' spec wise? As for buying a 6C, i dont really want to spend that sort of money on a car. Thanks!
