Windscreen replacement

Hi, has anyone had any success with replacing a windscreen? I have a crack in mine so I can kick that out easily enough but I want to know how easy it is to remove one without breaking it?

Also how easy is it to fit one and how much have people paid for one off a scrap yard?

In short, I've got 2 months mot on a 1.4 I won on eBay to replace my UP which was on a PCP deal. Will it fail a mot for a cracked screen??

Cheers

It depends where the crack is and how big it is as to whether it is a failure. Roughly speaking damage greater than 10mm in drivers field of view, 40mm in rest of wiper blade swept area is a problem. I don't think bonded screens are a DIY replacement jobbie. If you ask around a replacement will not be as much as you may imagine - make it clear that you are paying with your hard earned and not claiming on insurance

This is about a 2ft crack almost circling the rear view mirror, that's a fail then

I'll look into a windscreen company. It's not insured to claim a new one. They're generally £75 excess anyway.

It's very much a professional removal and refit

Special tools needs to remove it without shattering

Cheers guys, I'll have a phone around and see who can do it cheapest.

It's worth spending a bit of cash on it I guess, I landed it for £120 with an engine light (which I've cleared) so it could still be cheap motoring!

Argh mate, thats the absolute worst.

Tell you what, I used to use guys like Autoglass for my windscreen repairs and whatnot, but honestly I've been less and less impressed with them of late.

These guys are pretty professional car glass technicians who did the job really well for a very affordable price. Give them a try.
