The car is generally in good condition. There are a number of minor scratches and some dents on the bodywork, some of the plastic trim is loose and the steering column surround is missing (see pictures).
The car has been well maintained and was used as a daily drive for many years and we have years of receipts for work that has been done to the car to keep it in good working order. Unfortunately, since it has been unused for months, it is not currently running. We're looking for a good home for it (collection only), with someone who is interested in fixing it.
I have some experience of working on cars, so I've done a few jobs to try to get it running, specifically;
- Replaced the battery.
- Cleaned the rotor tips.
- Checked the spark plugs.
- Cleaned the air filter and air filter sensor.
- Checked the exhaust gas purge line.
- Replaced the fuel filter.
- Removed and cleaned the fuel injectors.
- Cleaned the main earth connections.
- Checked and cleaned the throttle body.
- Replaced exhaust hangers (I noticed they were perishing, so replaced them whilst I was doing the fuel filter)
The car is sparking fine and cranking (the starter was replaced only a couple of years ago), but it struggles to start and stalls almost immediately after it does fire. There is fuel pressure in the rail, so I suspect all it needs is a simple fix like replacing the fuel pump or an electrical fault, but I have run out of time to fix it, so I need to sell it rather than try another repair.
This car has been a reliable daily drive and means a lot to us. It will make an ideal first car for someone looking to own a classic polo or a great project car for an amateur mechanic or restorer. Please do get in touch if you are interested or have any questions.
Eugene.
