Hi Everyone, newbie here with a question.
I have just bought my son a Polo 1.4 2001 (6N2) but it has a problem with the switches on the drivers door that control the windows. I have bought 2 new ones and fitted them into the switch holder, connected the 2 plugs and voilà........nothing!!
However one of the new switches does lower the passenger window but doesn't close it again. I have to use the passenger door switch to close it.
Oh yeah, I have checked the fuses (2 x 25 amp) and they both seem to be ok.
Has anyone got any ideas as to what it can be please.

Check the wires between the door and the body as they often snap and stop the Windows working

Hi Alex. Thanks, I'll give it a go tomorrow. I should have thought of that myself as I had the same problem with a Citreon that I had.
Do I slide the rubber sleeve up from the door side as the body end seems to be a plug?

From the body side. It goes over a groove on the plug housing

SUCCESS.......................woo hoo. Thanks Alex, glad to say that you were right and it was a broken wire between driver door and body. I have taken some photos but unfortunately ran out of battery so couldn't take any of the the final result.

Piccy 1 shows rubber sleeve between door and body. This needs prizing off the connector on the door.
Piccy 2 shows wires inside the rubber sleeve. Look for any broken ones.
piccy 3 shows 1 broken wire which someone has had a go at before.
piccy 4 shows me using a screwdriver to release the connector from the door to make it easier to work with the wires.
Sorry battery just ran out so can't take final pictures but I'm sure you get the jist.

Cable joints in the flexy bit are never going to last.
Adrian, out of curiosity, what mileage? Assuming mileage has any bearing on the number of times a door is opened&closed.

It's reading 104k but this problem has been repaired at some point by a previous owner. Hopefully mine will last long enough and still be working when my son gets fed up with the car and sells it for something HE has saved up for.
