Airbags

Hi all,
I am new to this forum and so far i am loving it! Recently i was involved in an accident where a gentleman in a Volvo pulled out of a mini roundabout in front of me and my reaction was to steer left and try avoid the incompetent driver but failed to avoid and hit the nearside of his car towards the rear (Just behind the drivers door) with the front nearside of my 9n3 Polo. My insurance has said that I am the one at fault (Long story how they have come to that conclusion) but I am determined that the other driver is at fault. The other driver is saying that i was travelling over the speed limit when the impact happened so, I am here to ask the question about my airbags. The airbags in my car did not deploy neither did the airbags in his car so, i could not have been travelling more than 30 mph, right?
What does it take for airbags to deploy?
How else can i prove i was not speeding?
Any help at all will be much appreciated.
