6C Composition Media Click/Mute/Fade Problem

I occasionally - by no means always - suffer from the problem at switch on when there is a loud click from the audio followed by the sound muting and then a few seconds later the volume fades back up. There have been some threads on this in the past but no recent posts as far as I am aware.
I just wondered if anyone who had also had this problem had managed to get it fixed and if so how.
I'm going to mention it when booking my first year's service fairly soon but as ever it would be good to have some up to date feedback from anyone else who has been similarly affected.
It's not a show stopper at present but if it ever started doing it any other time than start up then it would become one.
Thanks

I had a new unit fitted last year and it still does it. My dealership has been waiting for a number of weeks for Germany to get back to them with an answer. Don't believe they know how to fix it. I chased my dealership up about this only last week. Quite ridiculous really.

Thanks - always good to know one is not alone!
I emailed VW UK about it and they phoned me back very quickly to say they had no record of the problem but if I ask my dealer to look at it when I have the first year's service they will do a computerised check with the main VW Servers in Germany which should indicate if it's a known problem with a fix.
One useful bit of feedback I received was that VW UK had now automatically logged my problem so that there is an element of future warranty protection if it should worsen at a later date. So it might be worthwhile for other sufferers to let VW UK know.
At present it's not annoying me all that much. But there is a certain law which says it will suddenly get much worse just after the car's warranty expires.

mine also does this and it has also had a new unit fitted under warranty
i had it back from vw thursday for a number of issues and they said they were unable to get it to pop
get in it friday and bam pop from the rears and then fading up.
it only seems to affect earlier GTI's so there must be a difference to the later ones

Have you ever had it pop other than at start up? I haven't - yet. That is what worries me - if it started popping/muting/fading back up while I'm driving along it would be unusable. As it is it's liveable with I guess. But still very poor for what is supposed to be a quality bit of kit. I don't want to have a new unit unless it's going to fix the problem - too much risk of something else getting broken in the fitting process.

I can have it pop when changing functions , not always but sometimes. Had it happen for example when engaging voice activation for a phone call.

I had this a few months ago, and then one day I turned the radio on and the screen never came on - you were still able to control the radio through the multifunction interface on the wheel and screen between the dials. This only happened once.
For that reason, I took it in and they updated the composition media firmware and the screen problem has never returned, and the pop sound when turning on is no longer present.

Thanks once again Blairc2016 for some very useful feedback. Is there any chance when you have a moment that you could check to see what version of the software you now have? If you haven't done this before this is what worked for me :-
Turn ignition switch one click – does not have to be fully on. Turn on Composition Media unit if necessary.
Press and Hold MENU button for a few seconds
Service Mode appears – select Software Download Versions
My Unit displays
Installed SW Train Version
MST2_EU_VW_ZR_P0138T
Installed SW MU Version
0138
Part Number 3Q0035842
Software Version
H21.51.1_STD2Plus.EU
Tap on Curly Arrow at top right of screen to return
There is also a menu item HMI Version with a lot of data but I haven't listed that
I found that repeatedly pressing the MEDIA button to cycle between SDXC Card and USB stick would occasionally provoke the dreaded Click.
I think the 0138 is the version number for the Composition Media software in my car currently.

My Software is the same version: 0138, however my Part Number is different: 3Q003820 (which I understand is the older model of headunits from early 2015).
Is your head unit one which will allow you to enter the code for App Connect? If so, it looks like yours is the newer one.

Are you referring to the Mirror Link icon? If I tap that it says I need an activation key which can be purchased from my dealer.
I found another thread on this forum :-
viewtopic.php?t=67691&start=15
which said
Out of interest did you have any options like the rear view camera? Apparently vehicles with these got the updated head unit first.
My car was delivered at the end of May 2015. I originally had specified the Cruise and Park pack but then a few days after my order went in the Parking Pack was announced which added the rear view camera for only £25 more. My dealer was very helpful and ensured that I could get that deal even though technically I'd just missed it. I'd quite liked the idea of the rear view camera but thought it was rather expensive - but for £25 it was a no-brainer. So maybe that was why I have the later Composition Media Unit.
However it doesn't explain why I'm getting clicks on SW version 0138 but that version has cured the problem for you!

it's an issue with early 3Q0035842 units
as i believe there are slight version changes within this unit model number.
Other wise it would be able to update them to the google/apple versions of mirror link
mine sometimes pops when ending a phone call and when swapping media selection

Do you think that means the only resolution is to swap the unit for a newer version as the problem is not fixable in software?
I guess they are not going to be very keen to offer that.

IMHO yeah i believe the issue is hardware based and not software as i've gone from version 0134 to 0138 and nothing has changed
it is probably the mute pin isn't being used on the amplifier chip inside the unit and it's own protection is kicking in, so that's why the pop is heard then they go off then fade back up
if you look at this
pdf page 17 it shows how it protection kicks in and looks a lot like what is happening.

I think my post may muddy the waters a bit more but it does back up Dinks theory that it could be a hardware problem.
I do get the random Click but no poping i only noticed it after having the Kenwood/Garmin sat nav fitted, it does have the factory RVC.
However my MST ends 135T.
SW MU 135T.
Part No.3Q0035842
This is on a Blue GT 6C built in December 14.
So SW 134,135,138,does not appear to change the problem.

I took my car in for its first service and the customer service person told me they had spent half an hour trying to provoke the click/mute issue by repeatedly switching on/off and also by cycling through the media (SD Card/USB stick) with no success at all.
I've been very happy with their standard of customer service and I'm sure that they genuinely tried to find the fault.
Ironically, when I collected the car I switched on the ignition and there was the click - first time! Sadly no one else was present to witness it.
They did say that the problem is now logged and if it gets worse they will be very happy to look at it again under the warranty.
I'm beginning to wonder if it is some sort of "cold start" issue in that it seems less likely to occur if the car has only been switched off for a fairly short time. As when I'd just dropped it off at the dealership and perhaps they started work on it almost straight away. But when I collected it later it had been idle for some time as it took me a while to get back there.
I also find that sometimes I get the GTI Logo on the screen when starting up and it's then a little while before I can play music. Other times I don't get the GTI Logo and the media unit starts playing immediately.
