Lowering springs - experiences?

Hi all,
So had the blue Gt 15 months and the arch gap is still driving me nuts.
Have looked at the VWR springs to avoid warranty issues, but wondering on people's experiences with lowering. I have never lowered before and would only be doing it to remove the arch gap so is this a silly idea?
Does it make the ride noticeably worse?
Also, where I live is speed hump city, from the huge square rubber ones, to the large Tarmac ones to the vicious little ones, will the car catch on them if lowered?
