Hi gang,
First post on here after being a long time member over at Briskoda with my Fabia!
My new Polo has been built and is about 3 weeks away from the dealer's. Spec as follows:
Flat black SEL 3 door
1.0tsi 110 6spd man
Options:
Adaptive cruise control
Car-Net App-Connect
Convenience Pack
Very excited for her arrival now! Have the metal sill protectors and luxury carpet mats ready to go. What else should I be looking out for on day 1?
I'm looking forward to exploring Apple Car Play and seeing how that integrates with the MFD. I haven't yet seen a Polo with ACC so expect that will be fairly unique. I would have bought the R-line but ACC is not available - presumably something to do with the front bumper shape!
Intending on finding out if somebody down in the Bristol area would be up for some VCDS coding; I.e dial sweep, reversing mirror adjustment, and anything else you guys suggest really!
I'm quite keen to put on the chrome tail pipe tip - but i cannot find out anywhere if these are suitable for the 1.0tsi? All of the press about them doesn't mention the new 1.0tsi! If so I'll consider ordering some of the Yeti tips that people have been using for their BlueGT on here!
Oh and for those interested:
£175/month
£3k deposit
36 months
36k miles
Cheers,
Oli

Nobody know about the chrome tail pipe and VCDS?

Exhaust trim:- you need to get down to a dealer, or two and measure the diameter of the exhaust of a 1.0TSI 110 if they have one in stock, and find a 1.2TSI 110 and measure that - then use that to pick a trim. I bought the Audi A3 one suggested some time ago on this forum and it works okay. The Skoda ones are cheaper and shorter, both of which might be helpful, certainly being shorter will not cause any problems.
VCDS:- it depends what drops out the end of the assembly line! I enabled "anti-carjacking", think that was all.

That's an amazingly simple solution I hadn't thought of! Will hunt around at the local dealers and see what I can find.
It's really that variable with VCDS then is it? It looks fairly straightforward to see the different options as long as I can find somebody with a cable and software willing to spare some time in exchange for beer tokens!

The unknown variable seems to be what VW programmed in the car at initial build, or at initial manufacture of smart controllers.

So, I've been absolutely loving the car. Engine is basically silent during normal driving. It's quiet and comfortable inside. Car-Net App-connect is brilliant. Ride is good. A little thirsty (45mpg average over first 920 miles).
Yesterday, day 11 of ownership, it was keyed in a Private and secluded car park during the day.
It is a good 20" long across the driver's side rear quarter. It just involves the one panel. It's definitely down to the primer.
I've never had to deal with any bodywork issues before but want to do it properly. Should I be going to the dealer and asking who thy use? Or should I try somebody like Chipsaway?
I live in Bristol.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Oli

Glad you're enjoying your new car Oli and really sorry for your misfortune. The fact that some jealous scumbag would do something like that makes me really angry. Do the car park owners / operators have a CCTV system? If so, it might be worth contacting them to see if the perpetrators who caused the damage were caught on camera and can be identified.
To keep your corrosion warranty valid, you would need to get the repairs carried out by a VW approved repairer, so I'd go to your dealer and get them to quote you for repairing the damage. If you go down the smart repair route by using Chipsaway or an equivalent smart repairer, the quality of repairs can vary greatly from one repairer to another.
Did you get a year's free insurance with VW? If so, and if you claim on your insurance to get the repairs done, then it will automatically be repaired by a VW approved repairer, so your corrosion warranty will remain intact. Claiming on your insurance would mean you will have to pay the excess under your policy, and your no claims discount will be affected at renewal of your policy.
Good luck in getting it sorted. Hopefully, your car will be looking like new again very soon. Flat black should be a fairly easy colour to match, so a good quality repair should be undetectable.

I had a similar problem but with multiple scratches (also on a black car)
Used Chips Away and I must admit it was a perfect job, you can't tell it's been done and I had a lifetime guarantee.
I also have a 1.0 litre SEL 110ps I and I think it's a great car it pulls really well. The only thing I don't like is the armrest, it's gets in the way of the gear stick and handbrake and when it's up I sometimes hit it with my elbow. It's coming off as soon as I figure out how it's bolted on.

Thanks for the advice. I did decide in the end to go down the VW approved route and I am using a big Audi Bodyworks specialist associated with a large charge of VAG dealerships in Bristol. It'll come with a VW approved certificate of repair and continuation of warranty to boot.
If I was close to the end of my PCP I think a smart repair would make sense. At the end of the day it's £300 to have the whole panel sprayed and the borders blended in. I have faith that they will do a good job. Hopefully it won't happen again. I did ask them to check CCTV, but of course they had no joy. Hypervigilence I guess is my only option.
The engine now has 1200 miles on it and so I'm staying to push it a bit more. The MPG has been creeping up - 43.5 out if the first tank, 47.5 the second and this tank looks like it will break 50 (that's calculating full-full rather than using the trip). It definitely pulls lovely and it's so quiet that you don't realise quite how much speed you have gained! I would definitely recommend the car and that drive train to others! I'm just hoping it'll get to mid-50s mpg wise!
I initially didn't like the arm rest, but I now have it in a position I like and because I'm so tall, with long arms, I can actually change gear with my arm on the rest. Once I had telescoped the wheel closer to me it also felt instantly comfortable. So it works well for me! It wasn't something I would have chosen to spec, just a freebie of upgrading to SEL I guess. I have to say, I love the LED lights, and the comfort pack makes everything so easy. I'm never turning dials - I just leave it to its own devices.
Similarly Apple Carplay is seamless and the integration is excellent. You definitely will never need to buy satnav on a car ever again with tech like that. I've found myself listening to quite a few podcasts and ringing more people now I have it.
Adaptive cruise control is a must on the motorway. It makes everything effortless - particularly in heavy, 70mph, traffic jams where it keeps you at a good distance effortlessly!
Negatives so far are: Both door cards seem to have a rattle at low speed which is very frustrating. These are not noticeable with any sort of radio volume. The drivers side windscreen wiper arm cannot be raised when cleaning the car as it does not clear the bonnet. In the process it has damaged the very edge of the bonnet paintwork so that will need fixing under warranty. It occasionally sticks into first. I'm hoping that will loosen up in time!
In general I love it, and I'm trying not to let the keyed panel taint it.

Glad you're pleased and I agree the SEL TSI does pull very well.
The wipers have a service position so you can lift the drivers side wiper up safely.
I think you operate the quick wipe after turning off the ignition but it's in the handbook if you want to have a look.
