I was looking at some pics of cars with canards and was wondering if anyone has seen any fitted on the 6R and which ones you would recommend. I have a standard polo 1.2 tsi.

Lool, but have you seen any polos or golfs with actual aero canards.

Okay joking over. There are a couple of images of competition VWs with a canard type aero appendage on the net. In order to have any real effect, an effect that would only become apparent at road speeds that carry a real custodial risk they would have to be so large that they would constitute an illegal risk to pedestrians let alone any UK driving license.
I haven't seen any on the market but you could always make them if you do not consider them a tweek too far.

I was going to get the canards mainly for looks, didn't know it might be illegal, thanks for the heads up.

If I'm reading you right we are talking about a pair of small aerofoils, one each side at the front.
I used to be into that sort of thing back in the 60s, we mostly called them bibs or trimmers, look at some pictures of the BMW CSL Batmobile racer and you'll see what I mean. I fitted something like them to my first car together with a rear undertray, twin exhausts and enough spotlights to illuminate a nightime match at Old Trafford, I won't say what car it was as I couldn't take responsibility for all the forum members wetting themselves laughing, let's just say it was very far from new and substantially under one litre.
I looked around at a lot of industrial rubber mouldings and found a pair that I thought looked the mutts gonards. My reasoning was that if I collected a pedestrian who hadn't heard my loud exhaust or air horns or seen my light display I could argue that my addition was pedestrian friendly. The old bill were more tolerant in those days. Never did get to put it to the test.
If you look at some pictures of factory homologation specials of that era you will see that quite a lot of them had spoilers or trimmers that were rubber or soft plastic. If you bought a BMW Batmobile the very large rear spoiler came in a bag in the boot with a warning not to fit it for the road! Not many owners heeded that advice!
Don't let old gits like me put you off too much, be subtle and enjoy your motor whilst you can.
