Strange Knocking Noise Polo 6r (2012)

I'm hoping somebody may have experienced the knocking noise my car has made for a few years on and off and help me source where it's coming from.

My car is a VW Polo 6r (2012) 1.4. Since I bought it the back end of 2012 only during wet and mostly cold conditions, the car makes a knocking noise from both front wheel areas over speed bumps or bumpy roads. I reported this to VW but they kept claiming they couldn't re-create. Now the car is older than 3 years it's out of warranty so VW probably won't be much help. However, I've recently got a dash-cam, so I've finally managed to capture the noise.

I know the noise is definitely not the actual wheels (tyres/alloys) as I've recently replaced with winter wheels. I've recently had a local mechanic check over the area during a service but they couldn't find anything wrong (albeit, it hasn't make the noise as it was warm/dry).

Video Link: https://youtu.be/7XFL0NTBRQ0

Noise occurs at 6sec, 9sec, 20sec, 47sec, 54sec it's a clunk da clunk sound if that makes sense?

Thanks all for your time & input, greatly appreciated!

I had something very similar on my 2011 6r when I had it. It took over 5 visits to different dealers but finally found out that it was the top mounts of the suspension. Again my noise was in mainly wet / damp conditions I'm not saying for certain that's what your issue is, but the noise does sound very similar. Out of interest, do you get a sort of click / clunk when you turn you steering wheel when the car is started from cold? This was the case with mine before the mounts were replaced. Hope this is of some help :-)

I had a very similar noises in my Polo 9N3, they was reproduced only in wet conditions as you comment.

'When everything was dry' I sprayed with water the rubber bearings on the suspension arms and the noises when was driving over speed bumps or bumpy roads instantly appeared. When the rubber bearings returned dry the noise disappeared again.

I changed the rubber bearings (bush) of the suspension arms. It was solved with success.

Maybe it helps to identify the problem ... :|

Hi,

Thanks for the replies and sorry for the slow response, I've been struggling to sign in all weekend :-)

Don't get any noise when turning the steering wheel, just over bumps towards both front wheel arches. Seems quite high up so this may suggest the top mounts.

Also good suggestion with the bearings, when it's next due a service or MOT, I'll mention these parts to the mechanic to see if he can replicate and get the parts replaced :)

While it was under warranty I should have persisted but after letting them have the car twice and them telling me nothing is wrong, it felt embarrassing going back.
