Hi Guys and Girls
I am having a hard time with my Polo. Maybe you can help me out, I have already used the Search function but couldn't find a similar case.
It started of one month ago, when I was standing at a crossing and the Power Steering Lamp went on - steering went really hard - it clearly didn't work anymore.
Restarting resolved the issue. Yesterday in the morning it went on again, but was gone after the 6th restart. I drove the car to a VW dealer, but the Computer hasn't stored any Error code. The mechanic didn't find anything, also the battery is good.
I got the car back today, but after wanting to drive home from work the Power Steering Lamp went on again. Even waiting for 1 hour and several restarts didn't resolve the issue.
Anyone experienced something similar?

It does indicate that that battery while being "good" is either dropped on capacity, so why is it still seen as "good" or the charge level in it when you have just started it up is too low so inhibits the power steering.

Just one thing here, is this car an early 6R with hydraulic-electro steering (has a power steering pump and fluid reservoir) or is it a later car maybe 6C with purely electric steering system?

Maybe that car is suffering from a constant battery drain caused by noise from source (faulty sensor) keeping the onboard power supply controller or BCM awake, so in cold weather this enough to discharge the battery between the times you are using it? (been there with a late 2009 Ibiza - well the draining battery experience!!)

its a 2012 Polo - so it must be a 6R (right?)

i'll get the car to the dealer again and ask them to look for a faulty sensor. your description sounds really plausible, there would be enough time for the battery to discharge.
