Fuel tank capacity - more than 50 litres?

Filled up today for the first time and got 52 litres into the tank (with 30 miles range showing on the MFD) !! Tank is only rated at 45 litres... Have I a super-sized tank or is this normal for the Polo?

No sign of a flood on the petrol station forecourt so it's all gone in

Hi d-ash!

The maximum I have ever squeezed into my Polo is 47.13 litres.

I always brim the tank as soon as the warning light illuminates, so probably about the same quantity left in as youself.

One thing, there is meant to be a space left at the top of the tank for expansion, you clearly have force filled to the top, I'd only ever do that if I intended to drive off and immediately run that car until I had used the extra fuel up - otherwise, you might just end up with trouble with the EVAP system which might hurt your wallet a bit replacing the carbon vapour trap and maybe other parts - you have been warned.

Filled to first click of the pump, so can't understand how so much fuel went into the tank. Certainly didn't brim it to overflowing.

Maybe others will come in with their "max" fill quantities, I'll check back on the records for filling my wife's Polo some time later and report back.

Ask the petrol station when the pumps were last calibrated?

That's a good point nats148. If the pump is over-reading, you're paying for more petrol than you're actually getting!

Ouch! Or avoid in future!

Come to think about it, I brimmed my 5ltr petrol can the other day, though decanted some across into another one as soon as getting home, and that "brimmed" fill was 6ltr, I sure that I have not managed that in the past, maybe I should also avoid that filling station for a while?

Maybe the fuel companies need to recal their delivery heads to make up for the fuel not shooting up in price every other day?

Hmmm. That's scary if it's the case. I thought they were regularly checked by Trading Standards.

I'll try somewhere else next time to compare.
