Hey, wondering what petrol types everyone recommends?
I've been advised the momentum 98 octane at tesco is the best? Can anyone advise if this changes anything?
Still Awaiting my polo gti but want to make sure.
Thanks.

I have read that BP petrol sold in UK is possibly the worst petrol you can buy from the "main players" - I have no actual experience of this, but nowadays, there is very little connection from the traditional "fuel companies" selling petrol in the UK and the original refiners (which share fuels in UK to avoid transporting long distances) or oil exploration companies - so from that you can now say that BP = BP and does not necessarily have anything to do with British Petroleum! (closer relation is possibly Green Energy)
Having said that, I've always stuck with buying Esso or if not near an Esso station, BP seeing as some areas in UK are totally devoid of Esso filling stations for some reason. Shell in UK made a very bad name for itself a few times years ago by designing and using nasty (to some engines) fuel additives - so as Leopards can't change their spots, I'd not expect much from them except maybe having your credit card "scim'd" for resale to long distance lorry drivers - an ongoing problem with the operators of Shell filling stations in UK!
It hurts me to say this, but overall it seems that Tesco - the food retainer that caused many small village shops to close - does get a good name for its 98 Momentum petrol which is tinkered into UK "ready for sale" from mainland Europe.
Note:- I get my Tesco points from Esso though! (even better if buying their "better" fuels).

I've always been a Shell user. I've used Shell petrol in all my previous cars and now I use Shell diesel.
I don't know why, maybe because it was on my way to work

I have always used Shell as well, not the V-Power but the normal 95 octane and not had any complaints up to now but I guess most problems would arise after high mileages.

This has been discussed on a thread before. I usually use Shell Nitro but that now has a silly premium price over the standard stuff so I buy Tesco momentum. The fifth gear fuel test a few years ago is interesting.

Yes fuel brand discussions/questions never yield much in the way of definite ways to go!
Having bashed Shell, I would have to admit to using their super nitro mega blaster fuel in my wife's old 2002 Polo 1.4 - you might ask why on a horrible dull 75PS engine, well the answer was, it was pinking violently and or due to burning oil, it needed a high Octane fuel and Shell stuff met with my needs and damped down that pinking and almost made that car okay to drive! Meaning that when I found out why it was burning oil (faulty oil separator - replaced that) and sorted that out, my wife demanded that I leave it on Shell Mega Blaster stuff until it got traded in against a new 110PS Polo SEL!
Quite a few years ago, Jet stations needed to be avoided as they all seemed to be run by school kids with no/very little in the way of water draining from traps, so okay if you could handle water in your fuel. Not the school kids faults - just lazy, suspect operators.
If you find a Shell station that employs UK citizens and that they don't, as a matter of course skim your credit cards - then go for it, but spare a thought for the long distance lorry drivers that end up having to use their own fuel cards instead of getting you to pay for their fuel.

I use Shell Fuelsave 95 RON and the points I collect go to Cancer Research.
Keeps the tip of my exhaust spotlessly clean.
