Smashed Mirror

Alright guys, not having much luck recently.
Some twonk took a bend too quickly last night and came into my lane, smashed my mirror.
They smashed the plastic housing into half a dozen pieces, smashed the glass and the indicator strip is smashed too.
I managed to glue to mirror housing back together, it was the world's worst 3D puzzle. Unfortunately I can't see a way to attach it. How does these usually attach?
The indicator and electric motors still work so I'd like to avoid replacing the entire unit if poss.
Could you recommend anywhere to buy the following? or is anyone selling on here?
- Heated glass
- Nimbus grey housing
Cheers all.

Dude, this sucks! Exactly same thing happened to me a couple of months ago.
I purchased one from a broker on eBay, £40 delivered. Heated glass from VW is £55 alone.
Super easy to replace glass, housing and the indicator strip. They are all separate bits.
If you can't find it in your colour you'll need to get a respray, but just the cap shouldn't cost much.

£55 for a heated mirror glass - ouch, ouch, ouch! I trashed both my old Passat ones years ago by misunderstanding when they were actually on - and burnt out the heater tapes, it was only £30 each then, though maybe 10>15 years ago.
I'd think that you will need to change that glass quickly or it will drive you insane and you might miss seeing something that is actually there - and not just some crazy image from the distorted angled broken mirror. To replace it, I think that you drive it to one extreme, hook something slender behind the mirror glass and pull out - it helps if you have both hands in a big carrier bag to catch any shards of broken mirror, remember that there will be a couple of leads to remove - unless you can remove them before taking the glass off as the cover is currently off the car.
Edit:- you can see that there is a clip in that broken cover, so I'd think that you offer the cover up and slide down to lock it on.

All separate! Awesome!
I can get the cover primed here for £12

Or the entire unit here, but I'm not sure about the fit.

EDIT:
The glass was hanging off yesterday and I was able to push it back into its housing. The video linked is great, thanks!

Can anyone confirm if the entire unit above could be disassembled to repair the housing, indicator strip and mirror on my current unit?
£75 for a genuine unit here too:

The nimbus grey mirror cap can be replaced. Props to you for gluing the broken one back together, I'm impressed

. However it looks like most of the clips are broken hence it will need replacing.
The mirror glass can be replaced as said earlier in the thread.
I'm not sure about the indicator, maybe someone with a bit more knowledge will know if it can be replaced on it's own however I would think it might be a case of replacing the whole unit unfortunately.
The most economical way could be to source a used one, it sometimes works out cheaper and easier than trying to source individual parts. Here is a link to a couple I found on eBay.

That used mirror for £60 looks to be the correct colour. It doesn't say if it's heated so I'll give the guy a call.

I found the listing for the offside in metallic grey and bought it.
Hopefully it's heated too, I phoned the guy but he didn't know.

Great! The video is useful for replacement. I kept the base housing with the wire going into the car from the original unit. I replaced the glass, the indicator strip (it's part of the plastic below, just lifts off.
If it's got the electric adjustments it should be heated. If not, at least we're going into warmer weather.
I've got my old one dismantled at home. I'll post pictures after work. Might help.

I just hope that you have checked if a 6R Polo mirror is the same as the mirror fitted to a 6C Polo which will be what you have!

The replacement mirror has arrived.
Thankfully it's the exact same colour. There's a few minor scratches at the edge but nothing too noticeable.
Not been able to disassemble it at my work desk but it looks to be heated too which is nice.

Who would have known?
I have rebuilt the original unit minus back cover and glass which is free to collect if anyone wants it.
Has working electric motor and is capable of heated glass.

Great to see this worked out for you
Looks great and you can't even tell it was damaged before, and you get the satisfaction of working on your car yourself!
