Engine light

Anyone had the engine light come on (flashed about 5 times) then go off again?

It's a GTI on a 11 plate 41000 miles

Seeing as that car has a "dubious reliability" engine fitted, maybe play safe and get it scanned with fully VW compliant scan tool.

That sounds like an timing chain tensioner issue, resulting in disparity between the camshaft and crankshaft sensors timing values.
Don't drive it, full diagnostics, and pray you've caught it early, then it will not be third world debt expensive!!
