I ma sure this has been asked before, but on my daughters 2004 Polo the yellow engine symbol has come up and relates to emissions believe. Its mt always there but was there this morning from cold and stayed on. Being yellow its not serious I presume being its yellow rather than red but trying to find out what I need to do.

Does it means the lambda sensor is or has failed?

If so, awkward to do?

Any feedback appreciated

Cheers
Andrew

Seriously there is no point in guessing, you do need to get that car scanned to find out what is triggering that indicator, just changing things that might be wrong/faulty can cost a lot of money and still not fix a fault. If necessary, buy a cheap VAG scan tool and see what it tells you.

On that version of Polo, any faults that have been logged will remain in memory, so don't worry if that light does not come back on regularly, the faults that were causing it come on will still be held in memory, unlike some new cars were they get cleared if they are low priority, which is a nuisance!
