Morning all this is my first forum post. We have a 2011 Polo 1.4 with about 25000 miles. Great car and our third Polo, our 7th VW. Just noticed that the drivers door seal has worn through at shoulder height which is really weird of all the cars I have owned this has never happened before. Questions: has anyone else had this? How easy/difficult is the repair? Is there a repair? Any ideas and suggestions appreciated. Cheers

Not heard of this on a polo. Heard about SEAT Leon having this issue in the past due to a poor fitting door seal from new. The cure if it is worn through is a new door seal unfortunately.

I've just encountered this.

Bought the car with - oddly enough - 25k on it and within two months of me taking possession the driver's door seal is worn through over a six inch length exactly where you'd rub it when getting out the car. I've NEVER encountered this on any car before. Consider me unimpressed.

Going to see if VW's 12 month warranty on used cars is any good but somehow I expect they'll say it's wear and tear. But a door seal's hardly a consumable item, is it. Miffed.

Ironically, I noticed it when fiddling around with tyre pressures...

Back in the late sixties early seventies I had technical responsibility for a fleet of driving school cars, originally Austin A40s which were then replaced with the new Mk1 Ford Escort.

Driving school cars generally suffer from failed drivers door locks, broken drivers seats and door seals worn in exactly the same place as described.

You never notice the seal being abraded as entrance and exit are effected but it constantly happens and few driving school vehicle door seals survive more than a year.

Replacement is tedious but not difficult if you have a soft faced hammer and a set of trim levers, Amazon sell sets good enough for occasional use.

Interesting! We have exactly the same problem with our 2011 Polo! I thought it was something to do with the previous owner as we bought this otherwise immaculate car, with only 21k miles. I’ve seen this rarely on other cars and only with 100k miles or more.

New inner door seal is around £70 from the dealers
Easy repair- seal can be pulled off and new one pushes into place.

Seems to be a VW group issue - very soft rubber that wears through at the slightest contact.

I wasn't going to pay for replacements, but did a home repair using the inner tube from a cycle tyre. Cut to length, split along a seam, superglue in place. Not especially pretty, but you can't see it from inside the car, and it does the job.

This tended to be more of an issue for Skoda Fabia and maybe as said some SEATs, so probably due to different/local suppliers cutting corners - it does happen across the VW Group marques, good savings at factories can be made, pity for the customers though!

Common, expecially in winter when doors stick to the seal. And people force and "rip" them.
Spray silicone spray once in while to keep them fresh.
