Temperature warning light flashing

Hi guys, wondering if anyone could help me here..
I have a 2012 1.2 diesel, and the temperature warning light has begun to flash. I have topped up the coolant however this doesn't stop the light going off.
I believe there could be a very small leak on the coolant side somewhere (nowhere noticeable as i have checked with the engine cover off, tracing the hoses to the engine, radiator etc), but the coolant level does drop within a day or two.
Could this be both coolant temperature thermostat & evidently a pin hole/hair line crack leak somewhere ?
If so, i am not entirely sure where the actual thermostat is located, if anyone could help ? tracing the coolant hose it seems there is what looks like a sensor on the right hand side of the engine underneath some more hoses. I'm not sure this is correct though!
Many thanks ....
