Intro for R-Line, question about CarPlay

Hi all!

Thought I would introduce myself and the new lady in my life, Pearl! I took delivery on Friday last week. It's the first time I've owned a brand spanking new car and I love her. This is the R-Line 110 BMT model, and I have to say I am extremely impressed with the engine. It's pretty nippy considering it's only a 1litre, and the fuel economy is just fantastic, I am averaging 53mpg with mixed driving!

So, the other reason I am here is although she is brand new, I didn't get CarPlay added when ordering, so asked for it upon delivery. VW Poole told me I couldn't have this done as it wasn't compatible. Now, it is my understanding that all VWs from 2016 on were meant to have the functionality included in the Composition units but those that didn't have Car-Net added would just have the service not activated. I have signed up to the VW Car-Net website and when putting in my VIN there it also isn't allowing it to go any further. Am I missing something here? I have emailed VW now. It's a real shame because I am over the moon with the rest of the car. See below. I look forward to getting to know you all!

Nice car shady pioneer. Glad you're enjoying it. I like the Salvador design wheels, and the R Line has the LED headlights which I really like on my car. 8)

Other forum members have had problems getting Cat Net App Connect added to their cars. This is a software upgrade that requires an activation key, and I think the cost to get it retro-fitted is approx £200.

There was an issue that not all versions (seemed to be the early versions) of the head units in the current Polo were compatible with Car Net App Connect. There were various discussions on the forum around the beginning of last year about this. This discussion thread will help confirm whether your head unit is compatible with the upgrade or not;

I would have thought that if the issue was with the early versions of the head unit, then supplies of this version would've all been used by now. However, if you are having issues, it appears this may not be the case.

Is there an option for it on the menu? My parents have a Rapid which doesn't have SmartLink (the Skoda name for AppConnect) enabled but the option is there and it says to contact the dealer for an activation code. Might be worth trying a different dealer if the option is displayed on the car but your dealer is being useless!

If you have a mute button bottom left of screen then CarPlay is not compatible and cannot be added (unfortunately). I'm in same boat :cry:

The mute button is the giveaway as to version of head unit, and the ones with a mute button cannot have CarPlay applied

Not completely correct - the model that CAN have carplay has the mute button in the TOP RIGHT. Although this is the nav button if you have sat nav.

This upsets me greatly! How on earth did my car get an old version of the head unit?! Thanks for the replies by the way everyone.

Having had the car for over a week, I love her. I just wish I had managed to get CarPlay sorted.
