GTI wheel replacement - tyre pressure monitor sensors

Hello again,

Further to my previous post on wheel specs, I've got a few questions on the tyre pressure monitors.

What issues are there with fitting aftermarket wheels to a car with TPMS? Will the car constantly complain that the sensors cannot be read? Or will it just ignore that they aren't there?

Can two sets of sensors be coded to the car? Do they even need coded? Can I fit TPMS to the new wheels and when I swap them over the car will just accept them?

As it's standard practice to have two sets of wheels on the continent for summer and winter use, I'm hoping either option A (no issue) or option B (get more sensors) is true :)

Thanks again

I assume the polo uses same as other vw group car and does not have pressure sensors but instead uses the abs sensors. It knows the rotational time for fully inflated tire and triggers an alarm if this time is different eg a flat tire. Maybe someone can confirm?

This is why you can't actually see the tire pressures themselves on the polo? My wife has mini and this has special valve with pressure sensor integrated and it shows the pressures on the dashboard.

The vw option is the cheaper and not the best.

I was just away to delete my post I found the same answer. I've also checked, the car has rubber valves in its wheels so no sensors. YIPPEE!

That discovery made me a lot happier about buying a set of used 15" VW alloys for use with winter tyres about 17 months ago!

Edit:- Oh and made it quite simple to enable TPMS in my 2011 Audi S4!

One of few Polos, and the only one at the forum with direct pressure sensors I believe is the Polo from ciclo.

It does look like, if you trawl through the parts catalogue, that direct TPMS is an option/requirement in some sales areas.
