Mine has auto lights and the swing illuminate auto in yellow and when lights come on the side light icon goes green but dipped icon does not change. It's same if I twist switch all way to the right. Does the dipped icon not change to green as well as the side light icon on the switch?

Weird that only the side light illuminate green? Also noticed that front fog light switch rear fog light on dash!! Very odd??

Sure on my previous Audi a1s with same switch it worked different and consistently just illuminated the switch lights for all.

Is it really supposed to work like this?

As above this is correct. The sidelights are green as per all VWs. It’s been this way for sometime, as has having the rear fog indicator in the dash

I believe the rear fog light indicator in the dash is there to make it more obvious to the driver that the rear fog light(s) is(are) illuminated, and to remind them to turn them off if foggy or poor visibility conditions no longer exist so they don't dazzle following drivers.

One of my pet hates is drivers who use them unnecessarily; at the slightest hint of light mist when they're not needed!

It's odd though that the dip light does not light up when on though. You can't tell if you have side or dip lights on in car. Would have been better if they both went green surely

I think their argument is sidelights are always on for DRLs so they don’t have a need to make it obvious if the dipped beam is on

I understand the point you're making but IMO it's a bit of a first world problem; all the VW's I've owned have been like this and I've never found it to be an issue.

It's always safer to see and be seen by others with your headlights on in poor lighting conditions. How can you be sure you've got your headlights on and you're not driving on sidelights? Either set the rotary light switch to 'Auto' if you've got the auto lights function, or turn it fully clockwise as far as it will go.

Personally I think sidelights are pretty much a redundant feature these days and I only use them as parking lights if I need to park in poorly lit areas at night.
