6c VCDS Coding - Cornering Fog Lights

Hi All,

I'm hoping that one of you will be able to help me out.

I've had enough of my fog lights coming on while turning however I can't find the option I need to change in VCDS, is this possible on the 6c GTI and if someone has done it please could you tell me how?

I understand this is quite a controversial issue as it's a "Safety Feature" however I can't stand being told that I have a fog light out/electrical issues every 10 minutes and having to explain to people why it's doing it.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry I can't help as I just leave them as VW intended, I thought that by now everyone had stopped commenting on these foglights, including the police, who seemed to "stop and check" when these things first appeared. It is a one click process on Carista I believe.

It's more the "one eyed" DRLs that annoy me now - and no I'm not getting confused with DRLs being switched off/lowered when direction indicators are on.

^^^This.

I actually find they're quite effective at lighting up kerbs and verges when you're entering and exiting junctions at slow speeds in unlit areas at night. It's a shame the reversing light isn't as effective; glad I've got the reversing camera which does help rear vision when reversing at night.

Thanks for the responses guys.

I understand that some of you may find them useful but personally I have never noticed a benefit of them and they are a huge annoyance.

Looks like Carista may not support this either, so I wonder if it isn't a customisation, no mention of this feature working on their site.

Just speculating but let's assume you had an accident whilst turning in the dark after disabling part of the lighting system.

If your insurer discovered that you had deviated from the Type Approved makers lighting specification would it not give them an excuse to refuse or reduce your claim?

Even if you had informed them of the modification I think you might find yourself with self inflicted difficulties.

Personally I really appreciate the subtle extra vision they provide. Most of the time it goes unnoticed but when it is useful it is very useful.

My method of dealing with the very rare comment is to say thanks and get on with whatever I was attempting to achieve.

i imagine it would be possible by setting the speed at which they stop activating to 0mph

Oh, sorry about that, I thought that was one of the most requested changes, maybe not for Polo/Ibiza/Fabia!

That's an interesting point Ricmondo. IMO anyone doing this should inform their insurer as it is a modification of the car from the factory build spec. I wonder if insurers would accept the modification or insist that the cornering lights should be operational on the basis they aid visibility whilst cornering (so are a safety feature). I suspect it would be the latter.

I also find them useful and I think the majority of people are now familiar with the operation of cornering lights fitted to cars. I've not had a single comment on me having a fog light out in the the 16.5 months I've owned my car.

The only comment I've had was from my elder brother. Easy to ignore as being a smart arse is part of big brothers job description. He is not that good at the smart part😀

imho I've have never once felt that the cornering lights have added anything to aid my driving (could well be to do with myself being a short arse) nor i have i ever felt that another cars cornering lights have either

i would say they are a added extra that has been implemented just so they can it into the sales blurb and have no safety benefit.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for your replies.

I appreciate it is a slightly controversial topic but I agree with Dink, it seems like they added it because it didn't cost them anything and it looks good when trying to sell cars. I notice no benefit what so ever and resort to leaving my front fogs on so I don't have to see it.

I messaged Carista on their Facebook page to see if they can confirm if it works or not and they say they are experimenting with it on their BETA software and if I would like to try it out I need to contact them via email which I will stay away from until it's released properly as I don't want to break anything.

I didn't get a response from OBDEleven.

Cheers

I'd be careful about using foglights all the time as that might, or used to come under the terms of "inappropriate use of lights" - front and/or rear ones.

Carista, yes I echo your sentiment there, too much of pushing changes out and letting users see what happens, not the way VCDS works, Carista is good and handy when it works, I only bought it as a small portable scan tool to have in the car, but I must confess that I have used its simple "one click" way of making some changes rather than getting VCDS out for that at times!

Edit:- I seem to remember that it was the way they worked during reversing that initially annoyed when me older daughter got her Ibiza, that caused a "you have your foglights switched on and it is not foggy" or "one of your foglights is stuck on" or "one of your foglights is not working" - time is a good healer though!!

Another Edit:- maybe your saving grace over using foglights when visibility is okay is the random way/position that manufacturers have selected DLR lights!

Does anyone know to activate this feature to my car? (Polo 6C)

update: I found this, it is from SKODA FABIA III, Fabia and Polo 6C have the same BCM, so i will give it a try.

Code: Select all

CORNER function (highlighting cornering fog lights):
Block 09 -
Closed area - code 31347
Adaptation channels:

(For cars without Coming Home/Leaving Home via PTF):
-Leuchte12NL LB40-Light_Function_B_12 - was not active, set Abbiegelicht links - save
-Leuchte13NL RB3-Light_Function_B_13 - was not active, set Abbiegelicht rechts - save

(For cars with activated Coming Home / Leaving Home by PTF):
-Leuchte12NL LB40-Light_Function_C_12 - Abbiegelicht links
-Leuchte12NL LB40-Dimming_CD_12 - 100
-Leuchte12NL LB40-Dimming_Direction_CD_12 - maximize
-Leuchte13NL RB3-Light_Function_C_13 - Abbiegelicht rechts
-Leuchte13NL RB3-Dimming_CD_13 - 100
-Leuchte13NL RB3-Dimming_Direction_CD_13 – maximize

On/off speed setting:
-static AFS light-Lower speed threshold - 0.0 km/h
-static AFS light-Upper speed threshold - 40.0 km/h (can be set to 50 km/h) - save.
Activation of both PTFs when reverse gear is engaged (standard with the function from the factory)
-static AFS light-bei Rueckwaertsfahrt – both sides

I haven't had this car for like 5 years at this point but did manage to turn it off with Carista in the end.

Cheers
