Let's Talk Lowering

Was wondering if anyone can shed some light onto this subject, wanting to get a 20mm drop on the front of my car and then I'd like an equal height at the back so is it 15mm difference between the front and back? so I'd need 35mm lowering on the back? Also what do people recommend? Should I do spring and dampers whilst I'm there?

I had the OEM VW lowering kit fitted (25mm front/30mm rear). It really helped to get rid of that big gap between the rear wheel and the arch. I found it made the suspension slightly firmer but not uncomfortable, and also made the car a bit sportier to drive as it felt more confident in the corners. I had them directly replace the original springs so I didn't have the shock absorbers replaced. I've done about 5000 miles with them so far, and haven't had any problems to date.
I read up about replacing the shocks with the springs. Some people say that you must absolutely replace the shocks and springs while others say you don't need to worry. A 25/30mm drop isn't a huge drop (Some members have a 55mm drop!). I decided to stick with the OEM shocks until they wear out. If it ain't broke, don't fix it

However I have to say with my current set up I have had no issues with the car bottoming out, even when it's got 5 people in the car. I'd also recommend buying a quality set of springs. I bought a used set of the OEM lowering springs however these are just made by H&R and many members have bought the H&R kit with no problems. It's the cheap eBay kits that I'd be worried about. I'll take a couple of pics of my car tomorrow so you can gauge what it looks like

That'd be great thank you very much, and i didn't know there was an oem lowering kit might just go for it as it seems to be the right measurements I'm looking for. Generally if it's oem they're designed to work with the original damper anyway, so you don't need to worry about that [emoji4]. Also I drive a GTI so i'm used to sporty suspension lol it's just for the daily car, needs it be lowered...after 4 years thinking about it [emoji23]

If you're going to go for the OEM lowering kit then they are available in 3 different weights, 830kg (6R0071677A), 860kg (6R0071677) and 960kg (6R0071677B). They sell new for roughly £110-160. But if you're lucky you can pick up a decent used set for less than £60

damn that's nice!
What should one be searching for to get the lowering kit ?

Not great angles for showing height drop but the back is a good difference, is that £110-160 from VW or what reseller?
