Hi guys - i guess this isnt specific to polos - but more of a general WTF is this stuff on my windscreen!





So - about a month ago i got a brand spankin new windscreen and it was fitted by autoglass!

All seemed well for about a week then i started to get a LOT of fogging inside (i thought it was a coolant related issue but its not), so i used Rain X anti fog in the inside of the windscreen then, couple days later, noticed this "greasy film" on the inside of the windscreen - when trying to wash it off it just pushes it around on the windscreen.

You can't really notice it from looking at the windscreen, only when there is light shining through (eg: headlights) (in the pictures its a torch to simulate said light)

I've done some searching around and tried almost everything that's suggested, so I've tried the following:

• Rain X cleaning gel stuff
• Clay bar
• Screen Wash
• Glass Cleaner (for cars and not for cars)
• Vinegar & Water
• Vinegar (on its own)
• Rubbing Alcohol

Any suggestions on how to get this off my windscreen or what i should do?

What glass cleaner did you use? I've had some which were utter crap, that I threw out because they just spread the dirt around

Simoniz Anti Glare Glass Cleaner

Try a tar remover like autoglym intensive tar

One thing that will almost certainly get rid of it is brake and clutch cleaner, though ensure its sprayed onto a cloth rather than direct as it can damage trims as its solvent based.

Thanks, will give that a shot this weekend - never thought of brake and clutch cleaner!

UPDATE:

Went to halfords and bought some autoglym Glass Polish - its completley stripped the glass of all its crap

However (this might be normal?): when i shine my torch on the glass, its almost like someone has just chucked loads of "sparkles" on the glass - only seems to happen when you shine the torch close!

Glass polish is good stuff. It’s probably just crystals from the polish. Perfectly normal

Can also be strands from the microfibre try autoglym fast glass to clean it of any residue (it also removes polish so will help you for this and for polish on plastics)

nice one, im sure ive got some of that left in the house! will give that a shot!

Newspaper scrunched up and a lot of elbow grease. I've found over the years that it's much better than putting any chemicals on the windscreen. (hard work though! but some of the old ways really are the best. No smearing)
