Here are a couple of my car following a wash this afternoon.

Its weird but I always feel like a car is really mine once I washed the car down. You definitely get to see the build and quality when you wash the car.

Happy with car and up to 400miles now.

Thanks @lancslad1985 & @ S_94 Looks really good and in the sunshine. @ SRGTD you mentioned the metallic flake would look good in the sunlight.

Now to take it for a drive.

Hopefully, we’ll get some decent sunny days during the autumn so the ‘flake pop’ can do its thing 😎.

Couple of half decent pics from the other day.
Not bothered about showing my number plate.

I'll be interested to see what VW does with the Polo, what with the banning of ICE cars by 2030!

@MikeDO does look good, hope you are pleased. White with contrast red stripe does look good.

Part of reason I was keen to get into Polo now, is that from mutterings from VW is that Polo as we know it is on borrowed time. With Emissions legislation for EU7 rules, the car makers are suggesting not worth building small cars. They are talking about ID1 & ID2 from 2025 as EV only models.

Previously VW said there would be mk9 Golf but comment from new boss is that they haven’t fully committed to it yet. Meanwhile there was a Autocar story about A3 being electric from 2027, so perhaps that is why they are rethinking an ICE mk9 Golf.

Agree; @MikeDO’s car looks good - and it’s the best colour even though Reef Blue GTI’s look good, but then I’m biased 🤣.

I’ve read a few articles recently about the current (mk8) Golf being the last and seen a few similar comments on the Polo too. With VW’s model lifecycles historically being around 8 years, then the mk8 Golf will be due a mid life facelift sometime towards the end of next year and a mk9 would be due 2027. With the ICE ban coming in from 2030 in some of VW’s core markets, that would give a very short model lifecycle for the mk9, and probably not financially viable for VW to build it, especially if they’d be unable be to recover development costs during a shortened model lifecycle. Maybe there’ll be a second facelift to tide the mk8 over until 2030 - similarly with the Polo.

I’m quite looking forward to getting an EV when I get rid of my GTI+ In 2-3 years time, although based on VW’s design language for their ID range of vehicles (gawky looking, SUV-esque ‘blandmobiles’ IMHO), it’s unlikely to be a VW. I also don’t like the low rent interiors of VW’s EV’s; too much cheap looking plastic, and the ID.3 doesn’t even get rear speakers - maybe the ID.4 and ID.5 don’t either. Also, VW still seem to be having issues fixing some of the software gremlins that have blighted the mk8 Golf and ID EV’s.

I’ve owned VW’s continuously for just over 20 years now so for me it’s probably time to move onto a different brand, come car change time, unless VW pull something special out of the bag with the ID.2 - whenever it appears. Somehow I doubt it. If I did stay with VAG then the forthcoming Cupra UrbanRebel looks quite interesting - the picture below is the near production ready version 😎.

Apologies for going off topic.

Nice car Mike. I do believe this is meant to be the last polo but I’m hoping synthetic fuels come off as they’d be greener than electric. Was reading an article the other day that unless you use green energy tariffs it takes 90k miles for an electric car to match and the be better than a petrol equivalent for emissions.

I suspect if this is the last polo they may go a polo r or gti special edition at some point.

Well it took five hours (one of those hours was a coffee break!) but it’s all done now and protected for winter. Despite my initial misgivings I’m growing to like the colour.

Looks good. I think it is one of those colours that you grow to like. In certain lights it can look almost copper coloured rather than red.

It usually takes me three hours to give my car a normal wash, so disregarding the coffee break, four hours is pretty good going.

Cheers. That’s with hand polishing as well as the machine is out of action. That used to save me a lot of time!

Very nice, and you’ve just given me wheel envy!

I’ve never been brave enough to go for bronze coloured alloys, but they do look good and work well with Kings Red paintwork 😎.
