Removing tailgate

I have a dent in the tailgate as unfortunately is one that would be cheaper to fix and would be a better result by fitting a new tailgate. I've looked at how the interior trim would be removed but I am worried about removing the wiring loom. Is there wiring loom inside the trim by the boot handle that presumably is for the wiper motor? And how is this loom removed as I can't see it go up the side of the tailgate like in other cars.

no the wiring loom and washer hose disconnect in the boot, behind the left hand side trim. there are two connector blocks, brown iirc, an earth loop, the washer hose and sometimes an FM antenna

Ok thanks but sorry I'm still confused. Where does the washer hose and loom disconnect? I can see the loom being fed into the tailgate right beside where one of the hinges are but have no idea where it goes or how to get it out. If there's loom under the trim in the tailgate itself where the wiper is, I don't see where it goes as the sides of the glass where the loom normally passes through is metal and there is no loom there.

Are you sure the dent can’t be removed by paintless dent removal (PDR), rather than replacing the tailgate? A skilled PDR technician can achieve amazing results these days. Have a look at some of the videos on YouTube to see what can be achieved. This one’s pretty impressive;

Funnily I contacted this guy as I saw the video you quoted. He as well as another guy said that they wouldn't be able to do a perfect job and said a body-shop would have to do. All the quotes I have received have been 250/300 plus but I can pick up a tailgate tomorrow for 100 so seems like a no brainer. The work they can do is amazing but my dent is quite deep, long and runs near the glass.

Hi, thanks I understand this now after actually getting the new tailgate and seeing where the wires feed. Should be an easy job
