Hi Guys,
Where could i find some genuine centre caps for my alloys?

Or, you could save a bit of money and your time by buying them from a VW dealer that has an on line shop - there are a few out there and they tend to give quite good discount and postage might even be free, you will need to give the part number of your current centre caps, that will be moulded into them on the inner surface.

Stuff the part number that you find into ebay and you will find that some of the genuine new ones are being sold by on line VW dealer's parts department.

stupid question, how do i find the part number of my current caps?

As RUM4MO has said, there are some VW dealers with on line shops so you don’t need to take a trip to your nearest VW dealer.

I’d always recommend buying genuine VW centre caps. Some of the cheap copies that you can buy on eBay are of dubious quality and tend to suffer from white worm corrosion, so probably won’t last as long as the genuine ones.

It’s on the reverse of the cap. You’ll need to remove the cap to see the part number; either remove the wheel and push it out from the rear, or very carefully prise it out from the front. If it was me, I'd remove the wheel, as prising the cap out from the front carries the risk of damaging your wheel surface around the centre bore.

Remember to take on board everything we have told you, I don't think that that is a VW main dealer and I would not expect them to be genuine VW parts with that part number, just copies that will fit.

My genuine OEM centre caps have part no. 1J0 601 171, which is the same part number as the ones you’re buying from the eBay seller.

I was not questioning the actual part number, what I am suggesting is, that these are copies, but if that is okay for you then I'm not questioning that - they do seem to be priced as replacement parts from a third party supplier of parts mainly aimed at independent repairers who fix them up then sell them on.

What is quite handy is, if you find someone selling off genuine parts that have not yet been packaged in their VW group branded boxes, they tend to be excess supplies that are being off loaded and appear via ebay.

ah apologies, miss-interpreted what you meant!

yeah, fake ones wont really bother me all that much for the time-being, will invest in better ones during the summer time when i finally get around to getting my alloys fixed up ha!

Depending on how long you plan to keep this car, you might find that you can buy some good used ones for use in summer time, I run two sets of wheels for both our cars, obviously with winter tyres on the winter ones.

Alloy wheels, they look good in "kind" climate for quite a few years, but where road grit and salt gets laid down they start looking nasty after maybe 3 or 4 years even with a lot of care being taken with them.

I got the used alloys for my S4 powder coated 3 years ago, and so far so good, the used 15" VW alloys I bought used from Germany came in good condition and after 2.5 winters are still just about okay looking, though the coating is coming off from behind the spokes and creeping round and into view!!
